The second Affiliate Thing podcast is now available to stream or download.
Lisa Picarille, Editor-in-Chief of Revenue Magazine, and myself chatted about a number of affiliate marketing issues during the weekly 30-minute show.
The show started with the latest buzz about the Federal Trade Commission potentially regulating affiliate marketing, and moved on to sending out gifts to business friends at Christmas, an interview with eBay affiliate manager Lily Shen, the next issue of Revenue magazine, and a charity fundraiser at Affiliate Summit.

3. Get Your Bids in for the Affiliate Summit Charity Auctions
The Affiliate Jam Session and Sing-a-Long, sponsored by ShareASale, will be a live music karaoke and networking party for attendees of Affiliate Summit 2007 West.
It's also a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada.
Affiliate Summit and ShareASale will each match up to $5,000 in donations.
There are a number of auctions on eBay where companies can bid to have host Brian Littleton, President/CEO of ShareASale, wear shirts, hats and pins with company logos during the Affiliate Jam Session and Sing-a-Long.
Also, there is an auction to have a company logo placed on all of the Affiliate Summit staff shirts for the duration of the three day conference.
So far, Connie Berg of FlamingoWorld.com, is dominating the auctions. Just a couple days remain - be a part of the action and help some kids in Las Vegas
Additionally, companies can donate directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada, and they will be recognized at AffiliateMarketersCare.com.
Visit http://www.affiliatesummit.com/bbbsn to donate online to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada. Be sure to enter "Affiliate Summit" for the question, "How did you hear about us?".
Donations by check should be made payable to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada and sent to:

5. Affiliate Marketing High School
Last week, on the inaugural Affiliate Thing podcast, my co-host, Lisa Picarille of Revenue magazine mentioned a tidbit about affiliate marketers and high school during her color commentary.
"My informal poll at a conference this year consisted of going around a room of 40 people that were affiliates and affiliate managers and asking about their status in high school," commented Lisa.
Lisa continued, "I found out that most of them were drama geeks, and sort of outsiders."
I was thinking about that today when I read a post on The SEO Loser blog, "Webmaster World PubCon Las Vegas 2006 - How I Learned I am an SEO Loser".
The post likened "the majority of the successful or famous webmasters and SEOs" to high school cliques.
Funny stuff, and it sure resonated with the readers, based on the numerous comments that related similar experiences.
Anyhow, as we get closer to Affiliate Summit, I just wanted to share some networking tips to help break down the walls, meet people, and do business. Damn the cliques.

6. Interview with Lily Shen of eBay's Affiliate Program
I recently sat down for a chat with Lily Shen, Senior Manager of eBay's (NASDAQ:EBAY) U.S. Affiliate Program, and asked a bunch of questions.
As senior manager of eBay's U.S. Affiliate Program, Lily Shen leads eBay's affiliate marketing efforts in the U.S. and works closely with the global eBay affiliate teams.
Lily has been with eBay for six and a half years, focusing on strategy, direct marketing, business development and, for the past two years, Internet marketing.
I asked Lily the following questions...
- What sets eBay's Affiliate Program apart from the other affiliate programs that are out there?
- What are some of the tools and resources that eBay has innovated to help affiliates to succeed?
- Are you using any kind of Web 2.0 methods for communication or have any events or any kinds of things to get in touch with the affiliates and keep in contact?
- As far as the different types of affiliates, there are so many types of affiliates out there, is there a particular kind of affiliate that is usually more successful with your affiliate program?
- For affiliates from the newbies up to the experienced ones, do you have any particular tips and tricks to help them maximize their revenue with the affiliate program?
- Do you have any tips for affiliates that want to expand beyond the US borders as an affiliate?
- I've been hearing a lot about affiliates trying to play around with both video and mobile phone. Do you see either one of those playing a role with the eBay affiliate program in the near future?
- I got some announcements in the past month about Project Rover. How the affiliate program has changed with that?
