1. Affiliate Summit 2006 News
The registrations and booths for Affiliate Summit 2006 are booking up fast at the Early Bird rates.

2. Affiliate Tip - Shrink Your Affiliate Links
Affiliate links are often long, which makes them difficult to include in text e-mails. Also, many affiliates like to cloak their links.

Neil Shearing, creator of the Internet Success Spider, has created a free tool called the Desktop URL Shrinker that enables you to shrink long URLs and hide your affiliate links right from your desktop.

There are many uses of this tool. In addition to helping you as an affiliate, when it's time to send a long URL to a friend, this tool creates a shorter version for you, so it won't break and fail to work in your friend's e-mail client.

As far as uses for affiliates, when you refer your newsletter readers to a product or service where you're getting paid, it will lend credibiliity to your referral if you hide your hide your affiliate link?

3. Affilipedia, the Affiliate Marketing Encyclopedia, Launches
The Affilipedia is an open resource for the affiliate marketing community.

It's a wiki where anybody can contribute their articles and other information on affiliate marketing there. Also, anybody can add on to existing definitions, articles, etc.

Here is my definition of affiliate marketing, as posted to Affilipedia:

Affiliate Marketing is a performance based marketing channel on the Internet where a merchant pays a commission to an affiliate for generating clicks, leads, or sales from a graphic or text link located on the affiliate's site.

For example, if a pregnant woman was looking for books on pregnancy, she might come across the review at BabyLounge.com for The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy.

If that pregnant woman clicks through on the title of the book in the review, she is taken to Amazon.com via an affiliate link. If she purchases the book, BabyLounge.com earns a commission on the sale.

You can use the search on the Affilipedia site to find definitions of other terms. If there's nothing showing for a term you'd like defined, let me know and I'll add it in.

5. Speed Networking at Affiliate Summit 2006
Back in November 2003 at the first Affiliate Summit, we ran a speed networking session. We've done so at every Affiliate Summit since then. But this year, rather than have it resemble anarchy with suits, we've decided to clean up and formalize the process.

We are working with NetworkingMatch (the company that ran the speed networking at CJU the last two years) to facilitate the most efficient way for business professionals to make in-person connections.

Everybody that registers for a full conference pass to Affiliate Summit 2006 will be entitled to log in at the NetworkingMatch site, create a profile, and then select who they want to meet at the conference.

We will arrange a series of one-on-one meetings with those people at Affiliate Summit 2006.
